Washer Problems We Fix
Washer won’t drain
Front-loaders have a drain pump filter behind a small panel at the bottom front, and that’s where coins, hair ties and socks end up. On top-loaders, the drain pump or the hose is often the problem. A drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe can also siphon or back up. We clear the blockage, test the pump and check the drain setup.
Washer won’t spin or clothes come out soaking wet
Before a washer will spin, it has to confirm the lid or door is locked and the water has drained. So a failed lid switch, a door lock or a slow drain will all stop the spin. On some top-loaders the cause is a worn drive belt, motor coupling or shifter. An off-balance load triggers the same symptom, so try redistributing it first.
Washer won’t start
Check that the door is closed firmly and the outlet has power. After that, the usual causes are the door lock assembly, the lid switch, the control board or the user interface. Some HE models also lock out when they detect a fault, and the error code tells us where to look.
Washer leaking
Front-load washers leak most often from a torn door boot (the rubber gasket) or a cracked detergent drawer. On any washer, check the fill hoses: rubber hoses perish with age and are one of the most common sources of laundry-room floods. Pump seals and tub seals are next on the list. See why old washer hoses should be replaced.
Shaking, walking or banging during spin
Uneven floors and unlevel feet are the simple causes. Worn suspension rods or springs on top-loaders, and worn shock absorbers on front-loaders, are the mechanical ones. Banging can also mean worn drum bearings, which usually announce themselves with a rumbling roar during spin.
Musty smell in a front-load washer
Residue and moisture trapped in the door gasket and the drain filter grow mildew. Leaving the door ajar between loads, using HE detergent at the right dose and running a cleaning cycle monthly prevents most of it.

Repair or Replace Your Washer?
Pumps, lid switches, door locks, belts, hoses, suspension parts and door boots are routine repairs, and well worth doing on most washers. Drum bearing failures on front-loaders and major control failures on older budget machines are where replacement can be more sensible. We’ll give you the numbers so you can decide.

Washer Repair FAQ
How do I get water out of a washer that won’t drain?
On a front-loader, place towels and a shallow pan under the drain pump filter panel and open the filter slowly, or use the small drain tube next to it if your model has one. On a top-loader, bail the water out. Unplug the washer first in both cases.
Why does my washer stop mid-cycle?
The most common reasons are a slow drain, a door lock that loses contact, an unbalanced load or a fault the control detects. If an error code shows, note it before you reset the washer.
How often should washer hoses be replaced?
Many manufacturers recommend replacing fill hoses about every five years, or sooner if they bulge or crack. Braided stainless hoses are a worthwhile upgrade.
Do you repair stacked washer/dryer units?
Yes, we repair stacked and laundry-center units as well as standalone washers.
