Stove and Cooktop Problems We Fix

Gas burner won’t light

If you hear clicking but get no flame, the burner ports or igniter are often clogged by a boil-over, or the burner cap is misaligned. If there’s no clicking at all, we check the spark module and the igniter switches. A burner that lights but has a weak, yellow or uneven flame usually needs its ports cleaned and its parts reseated.

Igniter keeps clicking after the burner lights

Continuous clicking is usually moisture in an igniter switch after spills or cleaning, or a failing switch or spark module. If it doesn’t stop once everything is dry, the switch or module needs replacing.

Electric coil burner not heating

A coil burner that won’t heat may have failed itself, or its receptacle (the socket it plugs into) may be burned. A burner stuck on high, or one that won’t adjust, points to the infinite switch behind the knob.

Glass or ceramic cooktop element not working

Radiant elements under smooth glass tops can burn out, and their limiter or control switch can fail. A cracked glass top should not be used. Spills can reach live parts. We’ll tell you whether the top can be replaced for your model.

Controls, touchpads and the range oven

Unresponsive touch controls, error codes and indicator lights that stay on are diagnosed at the control. If the oven part of your range is the problem, see oven repair.

Ranges and Stoves We Service

  • Electric ranges, both coil and smooth-top
  • Slide-in ranges
  • Freestanding (standalone) ranges
  • Cooktops
  • Stoves

We service ranges, stoves and cooktops from all the major brands we work with, including GE, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Samsung, LG, KitchenAid, Maytag, Bosch, Electrolux, Kenmore, Amana, Magic Chef, JennAir, Monogram, Dacor, Thermador, Viking and Wolf.

Quick Checks Before You Call

  • Gas burners: let the burner cool, remove the cap and head, make sure the ports are clear and dry, and reseat the cap so it sits flat.
  • Electric coil burners: swap the dead burner into a working socket of the same size. If it heats there, the socket or switch is the problem, not the coil.
  • Whole range dead: check the breaker. Electric ranges are on a double breaker.

Stove and Range Repair FAQ

Why does my gas stove keep clicking?

Usually water or food has got into an igniter switch or burner after cleaning or a spill. Let it dry completely. If the clicking continues, a switch or the spark module has failed.

Can I still use the other burners if one doesn’t work?

Generally yes, unless you smell gas, see sparking or the glass top is cracked. In those cases, stop using the range and call.

Do you repair both gas and electric ranges?

Yes, both gas and electric ranges, slide-ins, freestanding ranges and cooktops.

Is it worth repairing an older stove?

Igniters, switches, burners and receptacles are inexpensive parts, so most stove repairs are worth doing. We’ll tell you if a repair doesn’t make financial sense.
